Y House: A Modern Interpretation of the Rustic Village House

A Unique Private Residence by MMXX Architects

Inspired by the charm of traditional village houses, Y House by MMXX Architects is a stunning example of modern architecture that pays homage to its rustic roots. With its careful use of materials and innovative design elements, this private residence stands out as a unique and captivating structure.

The design of Y House draws inspiration from the rustic village house, reimagining it with a contemporary twist. The bottom half of the house is clad in heavy thick stone, creating a solid connection with the site and evoking a sense of permanence. These stone walls extend to form the railing for the loggias above, seamlessly integrating the different levels of the house.

One of the standout features of Y House is the layering and separation of the two planes. The second floor is slightly set back and finished in wood planks, adding a touch of warmth and texture to the overall design. This careful composition creates a visual contrast and adds depth to the facade, making the house visually intriguing from every angle.

What sets Y House apart is its ability to blur the boundary between inside and outside. The use of materials that cross from the exterior to the interior reinforces this seamless connection. The large windows and loggias invite natural light and fresh air into the living spaces, creating a harmonious blend of indoor and outdoor living.

The technical specifications of Y House are equally impressive. With a total floor area of 260 sq. m., the house spans two floors, an attic, and a basement. The rectangular volume with a gable roof is carefully placed as a freestanding object within a grassy courtyard, further enhancing its visual impact.

Y House was designed by MMXX Architects, a talented team led by Magdalena Matanova and Hristo Hadzhiganchev. Their expertise in creating innovative and visually striking designs is evident in every aspect of this project.

Completed in 2018, Y House is located in Samokov, Bulgaria. Its unique blend of traditional and contemporary elements has garnered attention and recognition in the design world. The project was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in Architecture, Building, and Structure Design in 2019. This prestigious accolade celebrates designs that showcase creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving the quality of life.

Y House is a testament to the power of design to transform and elevate our living spaces. With its modern interpretation of the rustic village house, it stands as a symbol of innovation and sophistication.
